wolf
22.07.2010 18:49The wolf (Canis lupus) is a mammal of the order of carnivores. It belongs to the same species as the domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris), taking as evidence a DNA sequence and other genetic studies. [2] Wolves were once abundant and distributed throughout North America, Eurasia and the Middle East. Currently, a series of human-related reasons, including the widespread habit of hunting, wolves inhabit only a very limited portion of which was formerly their territory.
Although classified as a threatened species for extinction soon, in some regions including the continental United States, the species is listed as endangered or threatened. They are hunted in many areas of the world by the perceived threat to livestock, as well as sport.
The wolf, being a predator, is in a lot of ecosystems. This large area of habitat where wolves thrive reflects their adaptability as a species and includes forests, mountains, tundra, taiga and grasslands.
